The HTC One (M8) is a beast in every sense. It packs in the absolute fastest processor, 2GB of RAM, an Adreno 330 GPU and a 5-inch 1080p S-LCD3 display. However, even with such blazing fast internals, HTC has included a high performance mode on the One (M8) that automatically kicks in while running certain benchmarks. 

This mode allows the One (M8) CPU to run at higher than usual clock speeds, which helps in boosting its benchmark scores. Last year, Samsung had received a lot of flak for cheating in benchmarks so its surprising to see HTC continuing with this trend on its latest flagship.

Considering the power that the One packs, it is all but given that users will never need to use this high performance mode. HTC, however, has included an option to switch to this high performance mode just in case their work demands it. Below is how you can enable the high performance mode on the One (M8):

Step 1: Head over to Settings -> About -> Software Information -> More and tap on the Build Number option seven times in quick succession. You should see a toast message saying “You are now a developer!”.

Step 2: Head over to Settings again where you should see Developer options now.

Step 3: Inside Developer option, you should see an option to enable High performance mode on your M8. You will get a prompt as shown below when you activate the option first.

Keep in mind that since the high performance mode keeps the CPU running at higher than required clock speed, you will see a noticeable drop in battery life of your device. It will also start running a bit hot under light to medium load. Do not enable this mode until and unless it is absolutely required.
