Facebook recently invited a bunch of media outlets over to their campus to demo several features slated to come to a new version of Facebook Home. During the presentation, the company revealed that Home has been downloaded less than a million times.
If that’s not embarrassing, I don’t know what is.
Circling back to the event, Facebook showed off a new app dock, similar to the one both iOS and Android have had since launch, and “Dash Bar”, which I think is a fancy way to start a conversation, though I can’t be sure since there isn’t a video.
And that’s it really. Facebook wants to make it clear that they’ve learned people like their phone just the way it is, so they’re going to try harder to “respect” people’s customizations. Like I’ve said in the past, Facebook Home will probably freak a lot of people out since it takes over your phone. The lock screen, the app launcher, the chat client … everything.
It should also be noted that it took a while for Facebook Home to be available outside the United States, and while it does run on a limited number of handsets, it does support the most popular Android phones from the past year.
