Three months ago, the Cyanogen team received a funding of $7 million and formed Cyanogen Inc. Now, the company has received another $23 million in its second round of funding from VC firm Andreessen Horowitz and some other Chinese players.

With additional funding in place, Cyanogen Inc. is now looking to expand beyond smartphones and into wearable computing devices, TVs and even cars. The company will also expand its current 22 employees workforce by hiring an additional 30 to 50 new employees over the next few months.

With some Chinese players backing Cyanogen Inc., the company expects its first smartphone to land sometime late next year.

“We intend to hit the mass market in late 2014 or early 2015 with a new brand, complete focus on the mass market and a new design language,” says McMaster. “We’ll bring to the market some new signature experiences that differentiate Cyanogen and any other brands we create.”

Cyanogen is also reportedly working with Tectonic — a firm that has working with Microsoft, Amazon and others — on creating a brand new UI for CyanogenMod and its upcoming smartphone.

Cyanogen Inc. is looking to become the third viable eco-system and already has a user base of 20 to 30 million users, with majority of them being from China where Google services are banned.
