While the Galaxy S4 continues its run as Samsung’s flagship phone, Samsung is already hard at work putting the finishing touches on the next year’s Galaxy S5. What novel technology will Samsung drop into its next generation phone? At least one person believes an iris scanner is on tap.
This rumor comes from ZDNet Korea which claims that Samsung is working on an iris scanner that’ll be used to lock down the device. The scanner will capture a picture of the iris of your eye and use that information for identification purposes. If true (and that is a very big if), it’ll move phone security way beyond facial recognition and fingerprint scanning.
Moving away from the wild side of the rumor mill, more reasonable features for the Galaxy S5 likely include a QHD+ display, a 16-megapixel camera and a metal casing that’ll replace the polycarbonate in previous models. It’ll be at least a few months before the Galaxy S5 makes its official appearance, leaving us plenty of time to speculate. So what do you think about an iris scanner to unlock your phone? Is it too minority report for you or is it just what Samsung needs to compete with Apple’s Touch ID?
