The OmniROM team has been slowly, but steadily, adding many unique and useful features to their ROM. Today, the team has announced yet another unique feature for their ROM – Incremental System Updates.
The likes of CyanogenMod and others ROMs all have an in-built update system, where users can allow automatic download and installation of the next nightly/milestone build. This is similar to how OEMs roll out software updates for their devices.
However, the problem with custom ROMs is that the user has to download the whole 100+MB ROM file again, instead of only downloading the updated files. This is where OmniROM’s incremental system update feature — OpenDelta developed by Chainfire — comes in.
OpenDelta will provide OmniROM users with automatic OTA updates for nightly builds, whenever possible, making the download size of the update in the range of 20-30MB. This is much lower than downloading a 150MB+ ROM every single day.
While this might not seem like a big deal, this is a blessing in disguise for people who don’t have access to a fast internet connection.
