Galaxy Nexus users, here is some bad news for you. Google won’t be bringing the Android 4.4 KitKat to your handset, officially anyways.

In its official blog post, the company mentioned that the Android 4.4 KitKat will only be coming to the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012/13). Nexus 10, GPe S4 and One. The company does provide an explanation, however lame, on the Galaxy Nexus support page though.

Why isn’t Galaxy Nexus receiving the update to Android 4.4?

Galaxy Nexus, which first launched two years ago, falls outside of the 18-month update window when Google and others traditionally update devices.

This answer won’t go down well with existing Galaxy Nexus owners. The handset launched with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onboard, and received updates to all the three variants of Jelly Bean (4.1/2/3).

If you own a Galaxy Nexus, don’t lose hope. While KitKat may not be coming officially to your handset, the folks over at CyanogenMod will definitely port it over to your handset.
