It’s been more than half-a-year since Android 4.4 KitKat debuted, but there are still a couple of straggling hsets out there—notably, Verizon’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Android Central’s forum users report that they’re seeing the KitKat update for their phablet-sized devices. There’s a caveat, though: The software update is only available by tethering the device launching Samsung’s Kies update software or Verizon’s Software Upgrade Assistant on a computer.

There’s no word about an over-the-air update, either, which means if you’re really aching for the latest version of Android, you’ll have to cave in hook up the Note 3 to a laptop or desktop computer. At least you don’t have to wait for Verizon to slowly roll it out to your respective device.

Some users are reporting errors while downloading the software update. You can peruse the forum thread for more information.
