Yesterday’s Twitter for Android tablet update reminded us that there actually aren’t that many tablet apps available in the ay store. Those that do exist are buried under other categories, even then there is no way to differentiate between which apps are actually tablet optimized which are meant for your phone.
The ay team is aware of this have thus announced a change coming to the ay store to help curb this issue. The update will go live on November 21 will ensure that all tablet users will see the “Designed for tablets” tab as the default view in the ay store. This way, you’ll be immediately directed to the apps designed specifically for your 7- or 10-inch device.
originally announced the designated “Designed for tablets” section earlier this year at its annual I/O developer conference, but it didn’t exactly work as advertised. You’d have to do things like rely on the good graces of the ay store’s search function to surface the app you were looking for, or investigate the included screenshots on the app’s description page to make sure you were downloading the right thing.
Good for devs, too
Beyond the consumer benefits, the search giant reminds developers that it offers a hy “to do list” for developing tablet-optimized apps.
also mentions that the new default view will be a boon for their business, too. “Every day, thouss of Android developers are taking advantage of the tremendous Android tablet opportunity,” writes Ellie wers, of the ay team. “The flood of new users coupled with the increased screen size means new user experiences, more engagement, more monetization opportunities.”
That’s a lot of promises, but if anything, convincing an influx of developers to make more tablet-optimized Android apps should have a positive effect on ‘s already blossoming global marketshare.
