Your tried–true Nexus 7 Nexus 4 are finally getting all those new bells whistles tossed into the newest build of Android.
The Android 5.1 factory images are live for the -Fi E models of the 2013 Nexus 7, along with the Nexus 4 smartphone, which debuted in 2012.
Android 5.1 brings a modest batch of new features, such as more -Fi Bluetooth controls in the drop-down settings menu, tweaks to tempering notifications, fixes to several performance bugs. The most prominent was inconsistent -fi performance, an especially major irritation for those using a Nexus 7 without E capabilities.
ile 5.1 isn’t as essential for non-stock phones tablets where the manufacturer may have added in similar tweaks, they’re definitely welcome on these pure devices.
In the past, the E model of the Nexus 7 scored the update much later than the -Fi version, but for whatever reason owners of both devices can rejoice this time around.
The impact on you at home: If you know what you’re doing you can go download the factory images right now instead of waiting for the over-the-air update, which will probably hit in the next few days. have a hy guide for installing an Android factory image on your device so you can avoid the waiting game.
Another word of advice: Don’t keep hitting the “check for updates” button. It doesn’t help.
