If you’re going to spend money on one of the first generation of Android ar devices, you might as well know what you’re buying whether you can cut costs by fixing it yourself. iFixit’s teardown of the G tch Samsung Gear ve reveals that both watches can be completely taken apart, but that its unfixable component is also one of the most expensive.
Inside the G tch, there’s a 400 mAh battery, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM. It’s I7 certified due in part to the rubber gasket surrounding its inside shell, so you can take it into the shower or tumble around with it on a hike. tch that screen, however: the most expensive component to on the G tch is its 1.6-inch I D display, which is also glued to the front of the device.
The Gear ve is also equipped with a 1.2GHz processor 512MB of RAM, but it’s got a smaller 300mAh battery pack. It’s not as repairable as the G tch, either, because of several small glued-in circuit boards, its 1.63-inch display will cost a pretty penny to repair.
Smartwatches might only be a novelty for the time being, but they also seem to be a serious investment for a gadget that hasn’t quite taken off yet. Those who are buying into the trend are essentially wearing a small smartphone on their wrist all day.
