When Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear at IFA earlier this month, there was also another device they was unveiled that didn’t get a ton of attention: The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition. Terrible product name, I’ll grant you that, but for people who want Android on a big screen, plus stylus support, it’s a brilliant piece of kit.
What exactly makes this tablet special compared to other tablets? Like I said, it has a stylus, plus it’s also the first Android tablet with 3 GB of RAM. The back of the device no longer uses shiny Samsung plastic, either. Instead, you have the same fake leather that you can find on the Note 3. This bigger Note also features a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, which is the same as the Nexus 10, but unlike the Nexus 10, the Note 10.1 2014 has four ARM Cortex A15 processors instead of two.
Today Samsung has finally announced when the tablet will come out and how much it’ll cost. Preorders begin tomorrow, but actual shipments take place on October 10th. The 16 GB model will cost you $550, while the 32 GB model will run you an extra $50. You’d be stupid not to spend the extra money to double your storage.
But should you buy this tablet instead of an iPad? You know what I’m going to say. If you want to spend over $500 on a tablet, just buy an iPad. Android tablets are fine, and the $229 Nexus 7 is a cracking good deal. If you buy the highest end Nexus 7 for $349, which has 32 GB of storage and 4G LTE, then you’ll probably have a better experience with that product, stylus be damned.
