Jen-Hsun Huang, NVIDIA’s CEO, recently told investors that the company’s Tegra business isn’t going to grow this year. He says he wants the company to focus on getting chips that have integrated 4G LTE support out the door. In other words, the Tegra 4i.

The cruel reality of the smartphone space today is that handset makers don’t want to do the heavy lifting of integrating components from various manufacturers. That’s why they like Qualcomm so much since their Snapdragon solution comes with virtually everything they need to bring a smartphone to market in almost no time.

But back to NVIDIA, when they announced the Tegra 4 and Tegra 4i at CES earlier this year, there was a lot of hype, but so far only one company, ZTE, has announced that they’re going to make a phone using NVIDIA’s new chipset. Maybe we’ll see more of those announcements in the latter half of 2013, but I say you shouldn’t hold your breath.
