Right out of the box, the Moto X runs on a near stock build of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with some unique features like Active Display and Touchless Control.

The Moto X was announced right around the time Google unveiled Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, so it makes sense that the handset did not ship with a stale version of Jelly Bean.

Google had already made it clear that Motorola will be acting as a separate entity, so it made sense that the Moto X did not ship with Android 4.3 right out of the box. Anyways, considering the Moto X runs on a near stock build of Android, it should not take long for the 4.3 update to drop for the phone.

Until the update lands, the developers over at XDA forums have managed to get their hands on the next best thing – a dump of an Android 4.3 development firmware for the T-Mobile Moto X.

The dump is not yet available in a flashable zip file because of a few important files missing, but the developers will figure something out over the next few days. Even if they fail, they could always extract the APKs from the dump, which might contain some new features and enhancements.
