The Note 3 and Galaxy Gear may have got all the attention earlier this week, but there was a third product Samsung announced at IFA: the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition. What exactly is it? Take the guts of the Note 3, that same Snapdragon 800 processor and 3 GB of RAM configuration, and shove it inside a device with a 10.1 inch screen LCD that spits out 2,560 by 1,600 pixels. According to DigiTimes, Samsung has very low expectations for this product. They’re aiming to sell about half a million units a month. (www.ameriseed.net)
How does that compare to something like the iPad? When the first generation jumbo iPod touch (just kidding) was launched, way back in 2010, Apple managed to sell 300,000 in 24 hours. Here we are, three years later, and Samsung will be happy with 1.5 million units a quarter.
Is the Note 10.1 a bad product?
Defining “good” and “bad” depends on what you want to do with the device. If you want to play games and enjoy content using gorgeous applications, then the iPad is for you. If on the other hand you absolutely need the stylus and are comfortable with the horrible lack of tablet apps for Android because all you do is browse the web and watch movies, then the Note 10.1 is for you.
Personally, I’d never recommend anyone an Android device with a screen that’s larger than 7 inches.
