Google announced today that its next version of Android will be known as Android 4.4 KitKat. While Google has always used dessert names for its mobile OS versions, this is the first time the OS has been named after a specific product. According to The Verge, no money has exchanged hands in this branding deal, which means KitKat has been handed a pretty sweet opportunity. Not surprisingly, the Hershey-owned confectionery has wasted no time promoting this partnership on its Facebook page and YouTube channel with a new ad.
Besides its liberal use of red Android robots all over its website, KitKat also produced a sweet advertisement for Android 4.4. The ad takes aim at Apple with its pleasant background track, strong visuals and talking head character that walks you through the product. As a mockumentary, it details the chocolate bar and not Android 4.4, so don’t watch it expecting to see a glimpse of Google’s next mobile OS.
