Xiaomi’s MIUI skin might be heavy and bloated but the company wastes no time in updating its popular devices to the latest version of Android. Ever since Google announced Project Treble with Android Oreo, there has been a notable improvement in Xiaomi’s OS upgrade speed for its devices. For Android Q, Xiaomi is promising to update at least 7 of its devices before the end of this year.
That’s commendable especially since MIUI is a relatively heavy skin and it is not an easy task to port the skin to a new version of Android. Xiaomi has confirmed the following devices will get the Android Q-based MIUI update in Q4 this year.
- Mi 8
- Mi 8 Pro
- Mi 8 Explorer Edition
- Mi Mix 2S
- Mi Mix 3
- Redmi K20
- Mi 9 SE
The Redmi Note 7 series will also get the Android Q update, though that will land in the first quarter of 2020. The Poco F1 will also get the Android Q update but it is not clear as to whether it will get the update in Q4 2019 or Q1 2020. While not mentioned, other popular Xiaomi phones like the Redmi Note 6 Pro, Mi Mix 2S, etc. should also get the Android Q update, though that’s only going to happen sometime next year.
Xiaomi is already a part of Google’s Android Q beta program, with the Mi 9, Mi Mix 3 5G, and the Redmi K20 Pro being a part of the program.
Before Xiaomi gets around to releasing Android Q for the above devices, the company will announce a new version of MIUI with a bunch of improvements and optimizations. Android Q for all the devices mentioned above should also land with MIUI 11 onboard.
