Redmi Note 7 Pro

Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro in India. The latest handsets have been designed from the ground up and come with a new design, plenty of new features, and impressive camera setup. What’s also impressive is that despite their budget price tag, Xiaomi has managed to include Quick Charge 4.0 support on the devices.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro also had Quick Charge support but it was limited to Quick Charge 3.0. With the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro, Xiaomi has gone a step ahead and added Quick Charge 4.0 support.

Quick Charge 4.0 is faster than QC 3.0 but more than that, it is compatible with USB-PD as well. This means that apart from Quick Charge 4.0 charger, you can also fast charge your Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro using a USB-PD compatible fast charger. USB-PD is slowly gaining traction among companies, with Google and Apple already supporting it on their devices.

Like the Redmi Note 6 Pro, there’s one catch with Quick Charge support on the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. The company continues to bundle a 10W charger with the phones. This means that if you want to fast charge your Redmi Note 7 or Redmi Note 7 Pro, you will have to buy a Quick Charge separately. Xiaomi itself sells a Quick Charge 3.0 charger in India for as low as Rs 449. However, if you want to buy a QC 4.0 charger for even faster charging, you are out of luck. Quick Charge 4.0 chargers are not readily available in India and you will have to import one which can turn out to be quite expensive. Thus, my recommendation would be to use the Quick Charge 3.0 charger as at Rs 449, it truly offers great value for money.

It is important to note how Quick Charging works before you invest in a quick charger. The biggest benefit with a QC charger will be visible when you charge your Redmi Note 7 or Redmi Note 7 Pro from 0-50 percent. With a Quick Charge 4.0 charger, your Redmi Note 7 Pro should easily charge to 50 percent in around 30 minutes. After around 70-80 percent charge, the charging speed will slow down so as to ensure the battery’s lifespan is not compromised in any way. With a Quick Charge 3.0 charger, the Redmi Note 7/Pro will charge from 0-100 percent in around 1 hour and 50 minutes, while with the stock charger it will take a bit more than 2 hours.
