Earlier this year, Samsung finally announced its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold. But the company isn’t done there.
Bloomberg is reporting this week that Samsung is already working on a pair of new foldable devices. The first of the pair is a clamshell foldable design, which will have a separate display on the outside. The other design will be similar to what we saw in the Huawei Mate X, where the device folds outward.
The clamshell design will be the first of the two new foldable phones to see the light of day, according to the report. Samsung will debut the device either before the end of 2019 or in early 2020. And while the initial design is planning for an external display, but Samsung may change that plan before the company is ready to unveil it. There may be an in-display fingerprint reader as well.
Interestingly enough, Samsung’s (technically) third foldable phone was the first the company was working on behind closed doors. The handset was Samsung’s initial prototype, and it folded outward instead of inward like the Galaxy Fold. It will reportedly debut sometime after the clamshell design.
There is no real surprise here that Samsung is working on additional foldable designs. This is a trend that Samsung not only helped kickstart, but wants to see keep going. Of these new designs, which are you looking forward to most?
