Redmi Note 7

After splitting Redmi into an independent brand, Xiaomi has released the first device under it the ‘Redmi by Xiaomi’ brand in China: the Redmi Note 7. This mid-range smartphone features a Snapdragon 660 chipset and its the first Redmi phone to come with a glass design.

After years of using plastic and metal in its phones, Xiaomi has gone with an all-new design language with its Redmi Note 7. Similar to Honor devices, the Redmi Note 7 features glass panels at the front and rear. It will be available in a trio of bold colors — Twilight Gold, Fantasy Blue, and Bright Black — which help ensure that it stands out from the crowd.

At the front, the Redmi Note 7 houses a 6.3-inch 19.5:9 aspect ratio FHD+ LTPS display with a waterdrop notch. The bezels surrounding the display have also been shrunk to just 1.95mm. Inside the Redmi Note 7 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset. This is paired with up to 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage space.

The rear camera specs of the Redmi Note 7 is perhaps the most interesting of the lot. It features a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL sensor with 0.8um pixels and f/1.8 aperture. The smaller pixels will definitely have an adverse effect on the low-light photos which is why in such scenarios the phone relies on pixel binning to output a 12MP photo with more details and clarity. The primary 48MP shooter is accompanied by a 5MP depth sensor used for capturing Portrait photos. At the front, there’s a 13MP selfie shooter which relies on AI to capture portrait photos.

Other key specs of the Redmi Note 7 include 4,000mAh battery, Quick Charge 4.0 support, headphone jack, Dual VoLTE, Wi-Fi ac, and USB-C connectivity. As you can see, the Redmi Note 7 marks plenty of first for a Redmi phone including the switch to a USB-C connector, Quick Charge 4.0 support, and a 48MP rear shooter.

The handset goes on sale in China from January 15, with prices starting from 999 yuan for the 3GB RAM, 32GB storage variant and going all the way up to 1,399 yuan for the 6GB RAM/64GB variant.
