Redmi 6: Lock Apps using Fingerprint Scanner
Step 1: Launch the Security app on your Redmi 6. This app is available right on the home screen. Select App Lock by scrolling down.
Step 2: Post this, the app will first ask you to set a pattern. This pattern can only be used to open App Lock. Once it is set, it will ask you to connect it with your Mi account. This is important as it can be used to reset in case you forget the pattern or your fingerprint sensor stops working.
Note: The next step(s) could vary depending on two things. First, if your fingerprint is already registered. Second, if you have set up security i.e. Unlock with PIN / Pattern / Password, for your phone. This is with an assumption that you haven’t registered Fingerprint to the phone, and you haven’t set up security pattern either.
Step 3: The next screen will offer a list of applications installed on your Redmi 6. By default, MIUI will automatically select a few apps to be locked. However, you can deselect them and select the apps you’d like to lock.
Just before you do that, MIUI will prompt you to use the fingerprint scanner to unlock applications. Tap on yes, and then it will take you to Fingerprint Settings. If you have not registered any fingerprint, you can add using the wizard and then turn on the toggle for App Lock.
Note: While the fingerprint scanner can be used to lock/unlock apps, it cannot be restricted to one single fingerprint. Any registered fingerprint can unlock the locked applications.
Step 3: Now you will return to the list of apps from where you can select the apps you’d like to lock.
You can find more advanced App lock related settings by tapping the cog icon located at the top-right corner. From there, you can
- Hide the pattern that you are drawing on the screen for the pattern lock.
- Hide Notification content for apps.
- Change the lock settings i.e. apps are locked only after the device is locked or automatically after you exit them, and after 1 minute of exit.
- Select whether all the locked apps are unlocked when you unlock one app.
MIUI also makes sure that the content of the locked apps is not visible during multitasking. This will make sure that nobody is able to sneak up on the private conversation or data.
