OnePlus 6T In-display fingerprint

OnePlus has confirmed to Cnet that the OnePlus 6T will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner. This will be the first time OnePlus will be offering in-display fingerprint scanner on one of its smartphones.

With Screen Unlock, OnePlus is hoping to reduce the number of steps it takes for users to unlock their device.

“We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action,” said OnePlus in an email to CNET. “By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them.”

The use of an in-display fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 6T will make it thicker by 0.45 mm when compared to the OnePlus 6 though. But on the plus side, the back of the phone now has a more unibody look as it lacks any cutout for a fingerprint scanner.

It is important to note that OnePlus already offers Face unlock on its devices which is blazing fast. So, the introduction of an in-display fingerprint scanner is only going to be of limited use.

Apart from an in-display fingerprint scanner, OnePlus has already confirmed that OnePlus 6T will be available through T-Mobile’s retail stores in the United States. Rumors point to the device coming with the same internals as the OnePlus 6, with most of the changes focused towards design. Apart from the switch to an in-display fingerprint scanner which is definitely going to up the ‘cool’ quotient of the device, the OnePlus 6T will also feature a waterdrop-like notch.
