Although Epic Games has tried to keep it under wraps, Fortnite’s arrival on Android was never really a secret. Thanks to a flurry of leaks, it was discovered a week ago that the app wouldn’t make its way to the Google Play Store. With the Galaxy Note 9 going official today, the company has announced its partnership with Epic Games and made the game immediately available for users of Samsung devices.

The game is compatible on the Galaxy S9/S9 Plus, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8/S8 Plus, Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, the Galaxy Tab S3, and of course, the newly launched Galaxy Note 9. It was always known that Samsung and Epic Games will be bringing the game exclusively to Android, so all we needed was confirmation directly from the two companies.

Now that we have that, Epic Games has posted an installer file on its site where you can download the game on any of the aforementioned devices. Users can also download the game from the Samsung Game Launcher app on their phones or tablets.

Getting Fortnite on your non-Samsung Android device is going to be a slightly cumbersome process, however. Users will have to request an invite for the Beta version of the game from Epic Games and keep their fingers crossed to get their turn.

The developer has made it clear that the game will have a dedicated launcher on Android and keep it entirely out of the Play Store. While this helps Epic have a direct relationship with its fanbase, they will also end up saving on the developer commissions that go out to Google when an app is listed on the Play Store.

Fortnite is considered a rival of PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds), which is immensely popular globally and is considered by many to be the inspiration behind Fortnite. With Fortnite now making its way to Android, PUBG’s dominance in the Android platform might not stay for long.
