Google today announced that it has started rolling out the final version of Android P to its compatible Pixel devices. It has also revealed that Android P will be referred to as Android 9.0 Pie.
While Android 9.0 Pie comes with the same set of features that Google had revealed when it first announced the OS back in March, some features are not going to be a part of the OS just yet. The Digital Wellbeing dashboard which comprises of a dashboard that keeps track of your app usage habit, Wind Down, and App Times are missing from this release of Android Pie. Google, however, is offering these features as a part of a beta release for which users can sign up from here.
The App Slices feature which shows handy shortcuts from within apps in the app drawer will also make its debut later this year.
Today, only the original Pixel and Pixel 2 devices are getting the Android 9.0 Pie update via an OTA. But Google says that it is working with other device OEMs to quickly bring Android P to their devices as well. As for the non-Pixel devices that were a part of the Android P beta program, Google says they will get the Pie update by the end of this fall. The same stands true for all qualifying Android One devices as well.
Android Pie comes with plenty of new features like Adaptive Battery, App Actions, an updated Material Design theme, revamped Quick Settings, tweaked notification shade, support for notched displays, Smart Text Selection, new navigation gesture, and more.
