Google’s Android P beta program is now live. This means that if you own a Pixel or Pixel 2, you can enjoy the latest Developer Preview of Android P on your device by enrolling in the beta program.
Once you enroll in the program, your Pixel smartphone will automatically receive an OTA update that upgrades your device to Android P. While a developer preview of Android P is already available for download over at Google’s website, you will have to unlock the bootloader of your device first before you can install it. This meant losing all your data on the device and the installed apps with it.
However, with the Android beta program that won’t be the case. Your phone will simply receive an OTA update that will bump the version to Android P. It is only when you decide to go back to Oreo that you will end up losing all your data on the device.
Google had released the first Developer Preview of Android P earlier this year but it did not start the beta program then as the build was unstable and primarily meant for developers. The latest DP build, however, is meant for public testing and comes with new features.
