The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ like the Korean company’s previous flagships are made primarily out of glass. Samsung has improved the durability of its latest flagship handsets by using a thicker glass and a larger aluminum chassis on the edge.
Despite these improvements though, it is almost a necessity to use a case with the Galaxy S9. This is because ultimately the phone is made of glass, and irrespective of how durable and thick it is, glass can and will shatter when dropped hard. And given just how expensive Samsung’s newest flagship handset is, you definitely don’t want to damage them. Given just how popular Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S phones are, you will find plenty of cases for them in the market. The Galaxy S9 will hit the retail stores later this week, but thanks to its sheer popularity, you will find plenty of cases for it in the market already. Below, we have rounded up our top cases for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.
Top Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ Cases
Spigen
Spigen is known for making high-quality cases for most popular smartphones out there. The company also offers a range of cases for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ to cater to the varying taste of consumers. If you want a very slim and sleek case for your Galaxy S9, the Thin Fit case should do the job. Made of polycarbonate plastic, the case is incredibly thin and yet offers adequate protection from dings and drops. Even better, its available in a bunch of colors including Lilac Purple, Coral Blue, and a Crystal clear transparent design.
If you want a slightly thicker case but one that protects your Galaxy S9 from all angles, the Thin Fit 360 should do the job. It does not offer cutouts for any of the buttons on the device for a higher protection standard, and Spigen even bundles a screen protector to protect the front of the device.
If you keep dropping your phone constantly or use it in harsh and rugged conditions, you should use the Spigen Case Tough Armor. It offers two layers of protection to offer optimum protection against scratches and impacts from drops. While the case does add a fair bit of bulk, Spigen has made smart use of it by adding a kickstand at the rear of it. This will allow you to prop the phone on the kickstand while on a long flight so that you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your favorite movies.

Samsung
If you are looking for a high-quality case and don’t mind paying a premium for it, you should definitely check out the official Galaxy S9 cases offered by Samsung. The company offers a variety of cases for its 2018 flagship handset, but two of them are really notable and worth checking out: the LED view cover and the Clear View Standing cover. Both are flip cases with some unique features.
The LED View cover features a built-in LED display which shows the time, and you can also customize the unread icons it displays. The case is on the thicker side but then offers complete protection for your Galaxy S9. It is also available in different colors to go along with the various colors that Samsung offers the Galaxy S9 in.
The Clear View Standing cover is also worth checking out. It features a clear view panel at the front which lets you view the Always On Display to quickly check the time or catch up on your unread notifications without having to open the flap. Even better, the cover can be folded to make it act as a stand for the handset while you are watching videos.
Both these cases are on the expensive side though, with prices starting from upwards of $50.

Ringke Fusion
If you want a polycarbonate case for your Galaxy S9 with a transparent design, the Ringke Fusion should be good enough for you. Alongside a polycarbonate body, the case features a TPU bumper to offer ample protection against drops. There’s also a wrist strap included with the case in case you are still fond of them. Like with other cases in this list, the Ringke Fusion also works properly with Qi wireless charging. At $10.99, it is also the cheapest case in this list.

RhinoShield CrashGuard Bumper Case
If you want a case that offers adequate protection to the edges of your Galaxy S9 but keeps the glass back exposed so that you can feel its premium build quality, you should try the RhinoShield CrashGuard bumper. Being a bumper, the case essentially wraps around the edges of the device leaving the front and rear glass panels exposed. However, the thick bumper offers adequate protection against drops of up to 11ft. The raised lip at the front and rear also ensures that the handset’s glass panels at the front and rear are not damaged when its dropped face down.
On the flip side, since the bumper is so thick, there can be some compatibility issues with certain USB-C cables and headphones as they might be thicker than the cutout provided by RhinoSheild. You can protect the exposed rear glass by applying a skin to it as most skins are compatible with the bumper.
Do note that it is extremely tough to remove the bumper once you have it installed on your phone. If you are trying to remove it, make sure to follow the instructions over at RhinoShield’s website.

Dbrand skin
Cases are important to protect your precious and expensive handset, but I am not a huge fan of them since they add unnecessary bulk to a device. Plus, you definitely did not spend so much on the Galaxy S9 to hide its beautiful design with a hideous case. If you are in the same boat as me, you should consider applying a Dbrand skin on your Galaxy S9. Made from 3M vinyl, Dbrand skins are available in a variety of colors and finishes. And since the Galaxy S9 features a glass back, its relatively easy to slap a Dbrand skin on it as well.
The skin will only offer basic protection against dings and drops, so you should not expect it to save the rear glass from shattering if you end up dropping it from a considerable height. Additionally, the Dbrand skin will also not protect the aluminum chassis which will easily pick up scuffs and dents in regular use. Nonetheless, if you want to show off the beautiful design of the Galaxy S9 and make your phone stand out from the crowd, just put a Dbrand skin on it.
