If you use Snapchat on an Android device, you’d know that the pictures captured through the app are of very poor quality. Snapchat has done little over the years to fix this despite the app getting a huge redesign. Thankfully, if you are a Pixel 2 owner, you can now enjoy improved image quality on Snapchat. 

This is because, with the rollout of the February security patch for the Pixel 2, Google flipped the switch to let third-party apps take advantage of the Pixel Visual Core for HDR+ processing. This should lead to an immediate and noticeable improvement in image quality in apps like Instagram and WhatsApp. Snapchat is also jumping on this bandwagon, with the 10.25.0.0 version of the app taking advantage of the Pixel Visual Core. This is the latest stable build of the app, with the beta channel adding support for the Pixel Visual Core a few releases ago.

So, if you own a Pixel 2 and were wondering why photos from Snapchat continued to look like trash even after installing the February update, it is likely because you are still on the older version of the app. If you don’t see the 10.25.00 update of Snapchat on the Play Store, you will need to wait for a few days for it to show up on your device.

If you are a heavy Snapchat user on Android and want the best image quality, you should ideally make sure that you are using a Pixel 2. Now, if only Snapchat got around to working on the usability of its app and the random battery drain it causes on most Android devices for no reason at all.
