Xiaomi has sent out invites to the Indian media for a media event to be held on February 14. The teaser image accompanying the invite carries the number 5 which likely hints at the company unveiling the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus at the event.
Xiaomi had first unveiled the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China towards the end of December. The handsets come with an 18:9 display, a metal unibody design, and huge batteries.
The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch 720p+ 18:9 aspect ratio display, an octa-core Snapdragon 450 chipset, 2/3GB RAM, 16/32GB of storage, 3000mAh battery, and a microUSB port. The Redmi 5 Plus is the more powerful of the two packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chipset, a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display, 3/4GB RAM, 4000mAh battery, and 32/64GB of internal storage.
Both phones come with a 12MP f/2.2 rear shooter with 1.25um large pixels, PDAF, and two-tone LED flash. At the front, there is a 5MP shooter with a selfie camera. There is also a fingerprint scanner at the rear of both devices. Despite being launched in 2018, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus feature a microUSB port. They also lack fast charging support. The handsets will launch with MIUI 9 out of the box.
Xiaomi will likely price the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus around Rs 8,000 to Rs 11,000 in India. They will likely be available in a multitude of colors including black, gold, and rose gold.
Update: Xiaomi will also be launching the Redmi Note 5 at the event as well. the handset will be sold exclusively through Flipkart.
