OnePlus 5T Android 8.0 Oreo OxygenOS

After rolling out the Oreo update for the OnePlus 5 as a Christmas gift, OnePlus is rolling out the first beta OxygenOS build of Android Oreo for the OnePlus 5T. This should make owners of the company’s latest flagship handset quite happy as they must be feeling left out after seeing older OnePlus flagships being updated to Oreo.

Being a beta, the build will have some bugs and stability issues. However, if you can look past it, you would be able to enjoy Oreo on your OnePlus 5T right away instead of waiting for another month or so for the final stable update to be rolled out.

The beta build of OxygenOS based on Android 8.0 Oreo brings new features to the 5T like Picture-in-Picture, Auto-fill, Smart text selection and a redesigned Quick Settings and system settings. OnePlus has also made some enhancements to OxygenOS which includes a new design for the app shortcut and more. The full changelog of the update is below:

  • Updated to Android O (8.0)
  • Launcher
    • Optimized the app shortcut style
    • Combine icon options with app shortcuts
    • Now able to upload photos to Shot on OnePlus
  • System
    • Added Picture in Picture
    • Added Auto-Fill
    • Added Smart Text Selection
    • New Quick Settings design
    • Updated Android security patch to December

The steps to install the beta OxygenOS build are pretty simple and only require you to boot the device into recovery mode and start the update procedure from there. Given OnePlus’ previous track record, the stable build of Android 8.0 Oreo for the OnePlus 5T should be available to all by the end of January 2018.

If you cannot wait until then, you should go ahead and install the beta build on your device but be prepared to run into some issues. If you do, make sure to drop a comment and let us know how you are liking Oreo on your OnePlus 5T.
