Less than a month after releasing the Mi Mix 2 in China, Xiaomi today launched its bezel-less wonder in India — the second largest market for the company. While the original Mix with its bezel-less design was more of a concept phone, the Mix 2 is meant for the general consumers with a much better build quality and feature set.
The Mi Mix 2 features an aero-space aluminium body with a matte finish and a ceramic back which gives it a very premium look and feel. The ceramic back is also more scratch resistant than glass or aluminium used on other phones. The use of a 5.99-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display also helps in making the Mix 2 more usable for one-hand use. The front of the device has a black glass slab look thanks to a super black lens coating.
Xiaomi has even managed to further reduce the bezel size on the Mix 2 by hiding the proximity sensor and the speaker beneath the top part of the display. Instead of a traditional proximity sensor, Xiaomi is using an ultrasonic proximity sensor on the Mi x 2. Additionally, the company is using a cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology for the earpiece which resonates the sound through a sound chamber and delivers it through a small cut out located at the top of the device. The company is also using a custom front camera module to keep its size in check, though it continues to be located in the bottom bezel of the device.
Internally, the Mi Mix 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, Adreno 540 GPU, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, 12MP 4-axis stabilised rear camera with 1.25-micron large pixels, and USB-C connectivity. The rear camera on the Mi Mix 2 is the same one as used by Xiaomi on its flagship Mi 6.
The Mi Mix 2 will be available in India with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. It will be available exclusive through Flipkart and Mi.com for Rs 35,999. The first preview sale of the Mix 2 takes place on October 17.
