Xposed Framework

More than a year after Google first released Android 7.0/7.1 Nougat, an official release of Xposed framework for the OS is now available. The developer of the framework, rovo89, has been working on Xposed for Nougat for almost a year now. He had provided intermittent updates on his progress but never provided any release timeframe for the final release.

The delay did lead to the release of an unofficial version of Xposed for Nougat, though it was buggy and not compatible with many of the existing modules. Nonetheless, thanks to the help of developer ‘wanam’, Xposed developer ‘rovo89’ has finally gotten around to release a stable and official build of Nougat for Android 7.0 and Android 7.1. While Nougat is no longer the latest release of Android, one still needs to remember the fact that Android 8.0 Oreo is not even running on 1 percent of Android devices out there.

When compared to the unofficial build of Xposed for Nougat, the official build keeps all of ART optimisations introduced by Google under Nougat for optimum performance.

Porting Xposed framework to Nougat took a long time due to the sheer number of underlying changes made by Google which included drastic changes to the JIT compiler of the OS.

Along with a stable Nougat release, rovo89 also provided an update on Xposed for Oreo. He says that most of the work done by him to get Xposed to work on Nougat should still work under Oreo which should make his work easier and faster.
