Google today released the fourth Developer Preview of Android O for compatible Nexus and Pixel devices. This is the last Developer Preview release of the OS before Google releases the final version to the public “later this summer.”
Google calls Android O DP 4 as a release candidate so it is primarily meant for developers to work on and complete their apps. This also means that if you have not yet installed the Android O DP release on your Nexus or Pixel, you can do so now because this release is extremely stable and relatively free of bugs.
If you are already running a previous Android O DP release on your device, you will automatically get an OTA update for the latest release. And if you cannot wait for the OTA update, the factory images are also available on Google’s website for your flashing pleasure.
In addition to the DP 4 release, Google is also releasing the stable version of Android 26.0.0 Support Library and updated versions of SDK, tools, and Android Emulator system images.
Finally, with this release, Google is also accepting apps from developers targeted for Android O. These apps can now be published on the Play Store on one’s alpha, beta, or production channels.
With the release candidate build of Android O out, it is likely that we will see Google release the final build of the OS for all compatible Nexus and Pixel devices towards the end of August or in early September.
