A tip just landed in my inbox (thanks, Rob) pointing me to a rumor on GameInformer about the possibility of Amazon releasing a games console. Now in case you haven’t heard of GameInformer, back when I was a kid, they were considered to be one of the premiere gaming magazines on store shelves, so they have more than enough credibility in my eyes.

The rumor itself is this: Amazon wants to release an Android powered video game system by the end of this year, preferably by “Black Friday”, which is the day after Thanksgiving.

Amazon already has a controller in place, they already have a store for apps, everything is lined up, but I just have one question: Why? The Ouya was a miserable failure, possibly because it was only for games, so could this new box combine Android games and Amazon’s streaming video services?

November is just a few months away, so we’ll find out soon enough.
