Mi Max 2

Xiaomi today launched the Mi Max 2 in India sporting a giant 6.44-inch Full HD display and an equally large 5300mAh battery. The original Mi Max was a surprise hit in India since its huge size led many to initially doubt that it would find any takers in the country.

Coming with a 6.44-inch 1080p display protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3, the Mi Max 2 weighs in at 211gms and 7.66mm thick. The phone also features a metal unibody design with a rear design similiar to that of the iPhone 7.

Whilethe display size of the handset is the same as the original Mi Max, the bezels surrounding it have shrunk which helps make the handset more manageable. There are also stereo speakers on the handset which are enabled when one turns the handset to landscape mode.

Internally, the Mi Max 2 sports specifications that are similar to Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4. This means we are looking at an oct-core Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2GHz and an Adreno 506 GPU. Xiaomi will likely only launch the 4GB RAM/64GB variant of the handset in the country, though the 128GB model might just also be launched in limited quantities.

Other specs of the Mi Max 2 include a hybrid microSD card slot, IR blaster, fingerprint scanner, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, USB-C connectivity, and Bluetooth. All this is powered by a 5300mAh battery which ensures the Mi Max 2 is easily able to last through a day or two of heavy use. The handset also supports Quick Charge 3.0 which can charge the battery to up to 68 percent in just an hour.

The rear of the Mi Max 2 sports a 12MP Sony IMX386 shooter with 1.25um pixels. This is the same sensor which Xiaomi uses on its flagship handset: the Mi 6. At the front, there is a 5MP sensor with a wide-angle lens.

On the software front, the Mi Max 2 runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It is the first Xiaomi phone to launch with split screen multitasking functionality.

The Mi Max 2 goes on sale in India from July 23 for Rs 16,999 for the 4GB/64GB storage variant. It will be available on Amazon, Flipkart, Tata CLiQ, and Mi.com.
