Google today released its Backup and Sync app for Windows and Mac that allows users to backup their files and photos to Google Drive and Google Photos. The app was supposed to be released last month but was delayed due to some issues.
The app lets one sync selected folders or complete hard disks on their PCs, SD cards, USB devices and more to Google Drive and Photos so that they are accessible from any device and irrespective of one’s location. Google says that its Backup and Sync app is meant for Gmail users, with a more business oriented Drive File Stream for G Suite users coming later this year.
Backup and Sync is an app for Mac and PC that backs up files and photos safely in Google Drive and Google Photos, so they’re no longer trapped on your computer and other devices. Just choose the folders you want to back up, and we’ll take care of the rest.
The new Backup and Sync app replaces the existing Google Drive and Google Photos Uploader app for Mac and Windows. The functionality of the new app is similar to what Dropbox offers, though whether it is as reliable as it or not is something that only time will tell.
