Google has started rolling out the the July security patch for all compatible Nexus and Pixel devices. Still based on Android 7.1.2 for the Pixels and Android 7.1.1 for the Nexus devices, the July security patch fixes many vulnerabilities and issues.

Like with every month, the July security bulletin is broken down into two parts. The patch dated 1st July is the partial security patch, while the one dated 5th July contains the complete security patch level.

The July security patch fixes a severe runtime vulnerability that could allow remote attackers to run arbitrary code on the handset, with many framework bugs allowing malicious apps to run arbitrary code. You can find the complete details of the patches and loopholes fixed in the July Security Bulletin.

There does not seem to be any bug fixes or enhancements included in this update as Google has is not highlighting anything in the changelog.

The following Pixel and Nexus devices will be receiving the July security patch:

  • Google Pixel
  • Google Pixel XL
  • Nexus 5X
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus 6
  • Nexus 9
  • Pixel C

You should receive the OTA update within the next few days, and if you cannot wait, you can always head over to Google’s website to download the factory image or the OTA image file and manually sideload it on the handset.
