Up until now, we have heard a bit of rumors about Google’s upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel XL2 handsets. The last report surrounding the handset claimed that Google had replaced the original Pixel XL with an even bigger device codenamed ‘Taimen’ made by LG. Today, detailed specs of both the handsets, the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL2 have been leaked thanks to a source of XDA-Developers.
The smaller Pixel 2 will sport a 5-inch Full HD display with a design that will be “almost identical” to last year’s Pixel including the large top and bottom bezels. The Pixel was panned last year for its design and huge bezels, and it is disappointing to see Google continue with the same design language this year as well. The handset will include stereo speakers, though it will lack a 3.5mm audio jack.
Then, there’s the Pixel XL 2 a.k.a Taimen made by LG. The phone will feature a 5.99-inch 1440p OLED panel from LG, and thankfully, sport smaller bezels than the original Pixel XL. Its design language will be similar to that of the Pixel though, including a two-tone glass and metal finish. Unlike the iPhone 7 Plus and many other smartphones in the market, the Pixel XL 2 will sport a single camera at its rear. It is unclear if the bigger Pixel will also lack a 3.5mm audio jack or not.
For now, it is unclear if the display will have the same 18:9 aspect ratio that Samsung and LG have used in their smartphones or not.
Both devices will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset clocked at 2.45GHz and pack 4GB RAM. The base storage on both handsets has also been bumped to 64GB.
What do you think about the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 based on the leaked specs? It is interesting to see LG make the bigger Pixel this time around since the company has worked with Google in the past on some popular Nexus devices like the Nexus 5X and 5.
