Why trust Greenbot
While Google’s second generation Pixel and Pixel XL are still a few months away from launch, we have already had their codename and alleged specs leak. Up until now, it was believed that the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 were codenamed ‘walleye’ and ‘muskie.’
A third Google device codenamed ‘taimen’ also made its appearance in AOSP logs and since it was reported to be bigger than the other two devices, though smaller than a tablet.
Now, as per Android Police, Google has cancelled the plans of launching ‘muskie’ which was going to be the second generation Pixel X. Instead, the company now plans on replacing it with ‘taimen’. Not much is known about ‘taimen’ at this point except for the fact that it is bigger than both ‘muskie’ and ‘walleye.’ It is unclear why Google decided to ditch ‘muskie’ and go with the even bigger ‘taimen.’
A GFXBench listing had revealed recently that the Pixel 2 will come with a 5.6-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display so it is possible that similar to the Galaxy S8+, ‘taimen’ will also sport a larger 6.2-inch display. Additionally, contrary to previous rumors, Google will only be releasing two smartphones this year, and not three.
