OnePlus has so far done a great job in updating the OnePlus 3/3T to the latest version of Android and providing regular software updates to the handset. However, things are not so rosy with the company’s 2015 flagship, the OnePlus 2.

Almost 9 months after Google officially released Android Nougat, OnePlus still has not updated its 2015 flagship killer to it. Worse, the company has been mum on when it plans on rolling out the update and has not rolled out any substantial update to the handset in this time as well. And this is despite OnePlus 2 owners making quite a bit of noise about the handset not receiving any significant update.

Now, a OnePlus customer support representative has confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will not be receiving the Nougat update. Considering that the handset launched with Lollipop and only got the Marshmallow update, it is disappointing to see that OnePlus abandoned the handset less than a year after its release.

Thank you for reaching OnePlus Customer support. This is Alex from OnePlus. We greatly appreciate your time and effort in reaching out to us. Your concern is of utmost importance, and I will be helping you out with your ticket. As much as we would like to give the latest update on the OnePlus 2, we’ve discontinued updates for dated devices. But we will continue to support the limited warranty for current users and provide updates and support the best way we can even for OnePlus 2 users.

The OnePlus X had also met a similar fate as the OnePlus 2. It launched with Lollipop and received the Marshmallow update and the company abandoned software support for the handset soon after.

Now, it is entirely possible that the OnePlus customer representative is wrong here. However, considering how silent the company has been regarding the Nougat update for the OnePlus 2, there is a strong possibility here that the handset has reached the end of its life with respect to software updates.
