Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung’s mobile communications division, has revealed in a media briefing that the Galaxy S8’s market response has been better than the company anticipated it to be.
The company’s latest flagship has already been pre-ordered over 720,000 times in just 7 days in South Korea alone.
“Initial market response (for the Galaxy S8) is better than expected,” Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung’s mobile communications business, said at a media briefing. “I think the Galaxy S8 will be the first device to regain customers’ trust and love,” he said.
Samsung’s US division arm had already previously revealed that pre-orders for the handset in the US were stronger than the Galaxy S7 from last year, with the growth being in double digit. Interestingly, more consumers in the country were favouring the larger Galaxy S8+ despite it coming with a large 6.2-inch QHD+ screen.
The strong pre-order numbers and consumer interest have led many analysts to believe that Samsung is on track to sell anywhere between 45-60 million Galaxy S8 units this year.
The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are Samsung’s first flagship phone after the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 from last year. Despite all the negative publicity that Samsung received due to the handset last year, most consumers seem to have forgotten all about it if the pre-order numbers of the company’s latest handsets are anything to go by.
