LG today announced a new Quad HD+ display which it confirmed will be used on the LG G6 debuting next month. The 5.7-inch display has a aspect ratio of 18:9 and features a resolution of 1440 x 2880, with a pixel density of 564ppi.

The higher resolution and wider 18:9 aspect ratio will allow for a more immersive experience as per LG. It also says that this aspect ratio is optimised for multi-tasking while using dual-screen functions. Despite the increased resolution, LG Display says that the new panel consumes 30 percent less power and features improved outdoor visibility due to an increased transmittance. It also makes use of LG’s in-Touch technology that provides a superior touch experience.

“QHD+ is expected to maximize users’ experience and value by providing ultra-high definition, differentiating it from all other mobile display panels,” said Kim Byeong-koo, senior vice president and head of mobile development group 1 at LG Display.

The new panel is only 1mm thick, with the side bezels being only 0.2mm thick and 0.54mm thick at the bottom. Additionally, the display does not require any touch cover glass that further helps in slimming the waistline of the device.

The LG G6 has already leaked in renders which suggest that the handset will feature a design similar to that of LG G5 albeit without its modular aspect. The new 18:9 aspect ratio display will surely help set the G6 apart from other flagship Android devices due to be launched this year, though it remains to be seen what other tricks the handset will have up its sleeve. LG is expected to unveil the G6 at MWC next month.
