Google today officially kickstarted CES 2017 by announcing that it is bringing Google Assistant to Android TV in the “coming months.” The Assistant will be available on supported TVs and set-top boxes running Android TV via a software update.

Once Assistant arrives on your compatible Android TV, you will be able to issue voice commands like “Play Stranger things on Netflix” or “Tell me about Jurassic Park?” to get the desired information on the big screen in your living room or bedroom.

Google Assistant will be available on all Android TVs in the US running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or Android 7.0 Nougat. This includes the likes of AirTV Player, Sony Bravia, and Xiaomi Mi Box. Google will also be bringing Android Assistant to the Nvidia SHIELD, which in addition to Google Assistant will also support “OK Google” voice command. This means that you will be able to trigger Assistant without having to press any buttons just like you would on any of the latest Android smartphones.

Google notes in its announcement that it will be bringing Assistant to Android Wear 2.0, in-car infotainment running Android, and devices and systems through its Embedded Google Assistant SDK.

Google also expanded on the Actions on Google platform, which allows third-party OEMs and developers to integrate their services with Google Assistant. The company says that some of its partners like Daimler and Hyundai will show off their integration at CES 2017. So, you will soon be able to ask Google Home how much gas is left in the tank of your Mercedes from the comfort of your couch.
