One of the benefits of the Moto Z (and its Droid-branded siblings) is the support for Moto Mods, accessories that snap right onto the back of the device thanks to its modular design.

And now it sounds like Motorola is already planning on bringing Google’s Project Tango to its flagship devices, by way of the Moto Mod support. Today, Motorola’s CEO, Aymar de Lencquesaing, said that it’s “likely” that the Moto Z lineup would see Project Tango support with a Moto Mod accessory. Via PCMag:

“The tablet folks [at Lenovo] did a phablet and worked with Google, the Tango team, to come out with a Tango phablet. Going forward, we’ll have to address as a group how do we reconcile the products that are at the fringe? We’re likely to to have a Tango module to basically enable the Z to have Tango functionality.”

Unfortunately, while the company’s CEO is essentially confirming Motorola has the plans in motion, there’s no other information to go on just yet. No release date or how much a modular accessory like that would cost. But, for anyone interested in the idea, at least the possibility is public knowledge now.
