With the Google Pixel and Pixel XL about to launch, it would make sense that the developer preview for the version of Android those devices will be running would be released ahead of time.
And that’s exactly what Google has done. The Android 7.1 Nougat developer preview is now available for only a limited amount of devices. That includes the Nexus 5X, the Nexus 6P, and the Pixel C tablet. According to Google the Developer Preview will be available for other devices beginning sometime in November.
If you are already signed up for the Android Developer Program, then there isn’t anything else you need to do — the Developer Preview will become available to you, as long as you have the supported device(s) soon, as updates are provided as OTA releases. If you are not signed up, manually flashing the Android 7.1 Dev Preview is also an option.
Android 7.1 includes app shortcuts — long-press on an app icon and quick shortcuts will pop up. The new software also includes round icons and a more advanced keyboard.
