Android Device Assist

For the people out in the wild with Android One and/or Nexus devices that used Device Assist, the app will no longer be able to help you.

Google officially launched Device Assist for Android One and Nexus devices back in 2014, and it was billed as a quick-and-easy way for users to learn tips and tricks about their handset, as well as diagnose issues with their Android device. But apparently it didn’t really take off in the way Google wanted, because as Android Police reports, the app has been summarily shut down.

Users with the app installed are being notified with a card that tells them Device Assist is being shut down, and that if they still want to figure out some cool tips about their phone, they should visit a dedicated website to do that from now on.

As noted in the report, the app is still functional on devices where it is already installed, but there won’t be any new tips or troubleshooting efforts added to it. It’s not discoverable in the Play Store any longer, either — unless you’ve already downloaded it.

Device Assist probably seemed like a good idea at the time. Did you ever use it?
