Officially, the Nexus 5 is not going to be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat by Google and has reached its end of life. Unofficially, just a couple of days after Google pushed Nougat’s code to AOSP though, a stable build of the latest and sweetest version of Android is now available for one of the best Nexus devices ever released.
Despite being unofficial, the ROM works well enough and has no deal-breaking bugs. All major features of the device, including camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, also work as they should. There are quite a few other Nougat builds available for the Nexus 5 as well, but almost all of them have some stability issues. The one by developer Chirayu Desai, however, is perfectly stable to be used as a daily driver.
The Nexus 5 might be old, but the Snapdragon 800 chipset inside it is still plenty powerful to run Android 7.0 without any issues.
If you do end up installing this ROM on your Nexus 5, do note that you will have to flash the Google Apps zip package separately. Make sure to reboot your device a couple of times after installing the ROM and setting everything up to make sure everything settles down and is working fine.
