Sony today provided a list of devices that it plans on updating to Android 7.0 Nougat. The announcement comes from the company just a day after Google released the final version of the OS for its Nexus devices.
Sony has not provided any official timeframe as to when it plans on rolling out the Nougat update for its devices except for stating “as quickly as we can.” However, looking at the company’s past record, don’t get your hopes up high on a speedy Nougat rollout anytime soon.
As for the list of Xperia devices that will be getting the update, here goes:
- Xperia Z3+
- Xperia Z4 Tablet
- Xperia Z5
- Xperia Z5 Compact
- Xperia Z5 Premium
- Xperia X
- Xperia XA
- Xperia XA Ultra
- Xperia X Performance
Surprisingly, Sony has no plans on bringing Nougat to its mid-range and budget devices, which is definitely not going to go down well with its users. It is also shocking to see the company not update its Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 series of devices to Nougat which pack in plenty of power to easily run the latest version of Android without any issues.
No wonder Sony is struggling in the smartphone market. Such a poor software update policy from the company is unlikely to go down well with its existing customers and will likely make them wary of buying future Android devices from them.
