Honor 8

Huawei today launched the honor 8 the United States, a month after its launch in China. The mid-range handset packs in impressive specs inside a beautiful glass design.

In a nutshell, the Honor 8 is a cheaper version of Huawei’s more premium P9 handset. The handset packs a 5.2-inch 1080p display at the front, with a fingerprint scanner located at the rear. As with other devices from Huawei, the fingerprint scanner can be used to navigate around the UI, take photos, and more.

Powering the Honor 8 is Huawei’s own Kirin 950 chipset — an octa-core chip that packs in four Cortex-A72 cores. This is paired with 4GB RAM, up to 64GB of storage, and a 3,000mAh battery.

Like the P9, the Honor 8 also comes with a dual 12MP camera setup at its rear. One of the camera sensors is monochrome for improved low-light performance. This setup also allows the handset to capture more light and details and provide some fancy effects. An 8MP selfie shooter is located at the front of the handset. Other specs of the handset include LTE support, microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.2, and a USB Type-C port.

On the software front, the Honor 8 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Emotion UI 4.1 on top of it. The latest version of the company’s skin is significantly faster than before whilst offering plenty of customization options.

The honor 8 will be available in the United States for $399.99 for the 32GB variant, with the 64GB variant priced at $449.99. It will be available in three colors: Sapphire Blue, Pearl White, and Midnight Black. The handset can be purchased unlocked from Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, HiHonor.com, and NewEgg. And if you pre-order the handset, you will get a free $50 gift card as well.
