Last month, Xiaomi launched the Mi Max in India. True to its name, the device comes with a gigantic 6.44-inch display and a beefy 4850mAh battery. Despite its gargantuan size, the Mi Max has turned out to be a success for the Chinese company in India.

The company has already held a few successful sales of the Mi Max, but it has now seemingly ran into some issues with the latest batch of the devices sold  in the country. Various online forums and Amazon India’s review page of the Mi Max are full of complaints from users about the device simply not being able to connect to Wi-Fi networks.

The issue seems to be present in devices that were sold in the first sale that occurred at the beginning of August, with devices sold before that not exhibiting any such issue.

It remains unclear if this is a software of a hardware issue at the moment. Xiaomi is yet to issue an official statement on this matter. However, a Xiaomi spokesperson I spoke to today at the Redmi 3S Prime launch event said that it is likely a software issue which the company will fix with an OTA update. Again, the company is still looking into the matter so it is entirely possible that it turns out to be a defective batch of Mi Max units that were sold by Xiaomi.

The company also confirmed at the event that it would be launching the 4GB RAM + 128GB variant of the Mi Max that is powered by a Snapdragon 652 chipset in India next month. It will be priced at Rs. 19,999.
