Xiaomi today unveiled its newest Redmi handset in China, the Redmi 3s. The handset is a slightly powerful version of the existing Redmi 3 handset that the company sells in the country.
The Redmi 3s shares the same metal unibody design as the original Redmi 3, but it comes with faster internals. This includes a switch to an octa-core Snapdragon 430 chipset that can run at clock speeds of up to 1.5GHz, 2/3GB RAM, 16/32GB of storage space, and a microSD card slot. The handset also sports a 5-inch 720p display at the front, with capacitive navigation buttons sitting below it.
The Redmi 3s is the first smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 430 chipset. Compared to the company’s ageing Snapdragon 410 chipset, this octa-core chip should provide a significantly performance improvement.
