Yonhap News reports that the combined sales of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge worldwide are estimated to reach the 25 million mark by the end of June. The success of the Galaxy S7 and its edge sibling have been due to three key factors: early release, aggressive marketing, and an overall compelling product.
When Samsung first announced the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge at Mobile World Congress in February, many dismissed the phone for being too similar to the Galaxy S6 and packing in little innovation. However, despite the similar looking design, the refinements made by Samsung to the Galaxy S7 over its predecessor lead to a huge usability improvement. This includes a significantly better battery life, even better low-light camera performance, and a toned down TouchWiz. The reintroduction of a microSD card slot and water-resistance further help in this regard.
Samsung has also aggressively promoted the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge this time around. It bundled a free Gear VR with the headset for initial customers, and even now, it continues to offer the headset for free (or at discount) with the handset. In the United States, the company offered a BOGO (Buy One, Get One) offer for the handset at every major carrier that further helped in boosting its sales.
